What is the Gateway Project?
First of all, the project is located at our business center of town at the intersection of Routes 96 and 332. Phase 1 of the project starts with the Farmington Commons/CVS plaza on the southwest corner.
The project involves a major redesign and improvement of the land directly in front of the plaza between the parking area and the sidewalk. The project features a paver block walkway with a central clock tower reaching 18 ft into the air. There are several park benches, tables for seating and enjoying coffee or a meal, and a large landscaped area with trees and decorative hedges. We are working with the NYS DOT to ensure the project meets all safety regulations as well.
This corner’s theme is Community and will feature a large walkway and seating areas made up of brick paver blocks that are engraved with the names of community residents, your names, as well as businesses. This is done around the world in similar projects and locally at several locations including the park in downtown Victor and the Monroe County Humane Society.
How will this be funded?
First and foremost, there are absolutely zero tax dollars going into this project! This 100% funded from donations by community – businesses and residents. By your purchase of an engraved paver you are getting your family name immortalized and helping to support the community in which you live.
In order for the project to be successful we need to sell 1000 blocks by mid 2011. This is the community portion of the fundraising effort and is key in ensuring the success of the project. In addition to the community portion, local businesses have risen to the occasion in there purchase of naming rights for many of the park features. These features include donations for the clock, engraved park benches and tables, trees and other landscaping items. In a show of support for the project, the owners of the plaza, the Stathopoulos family, have pledged the major donor spot for the project.
The project is estimated to cost $150,000 when complete. Business will comprise about 30-40% of our goal and the rest will need to come from paver block purchase donations form our great townspeople! If you haven’t sent in your order please do so today…
